In general;  networking Windows 7 with Vista and Win XP PC's in a mixed wired, wireless environment
I've read all sorts of nice things about networking Windows 7 PC's, nothing about networking them to Vista and XP systems in a home environment. I did some testing with Win 7 beta, and could not access shares on my existing XP and Vista PC's. I've found no documentation or instructions and would like to see what people have to say on this. Thanks, Ron

What i will say is try and check first of all if you have the right permissions on all the systems that you want to share. there is also a home group thats comes with w7 install that on your w7 system and then you are give a code all you have to do is do type code on any system that you want to share with. and its more secure. And dont forget that anytime u do changes in yout network pcs you need to restart all systems for the effect to take place. If you need more help then let me know. cheers.

I don't understand the answer and I'm having the same problem. From my Win 7 machine, I can't access the hard drive onmy XP system. From the XP system, I have no trouble accessing the hard drive on Win 7 machine. Where/how do I set the right permissions? Thanks.

You can't share files on a vista to xp or vista to vista without passwords on the user accounts with the shared files. I would bet this is the same with W7

I think you dont know what you talking about when you have sharing permissions on all systems you dont need passwords to access other drives or folders unless they are for another user or you are not the administrator on the system.

the problem is the sharing permissions that you have on your XP. Ok do this go on click on the drive you want to share. lets say drive C:\. When on C drive click on the right on your mouse.Go to properties which is the last in the dialogue boxClick on it and opens the properties folder and you can find SECURITY , HARDWARE, TOOLSetc and thenSHARINGClick on SHARING if its not shared click on share this folder and it will give you options of what you want to do.Go toPERMISSIONS and click on that and it will also have options you will find that you in the first box is everyone. You can addusers you want to share the folder with by adding their names but they have to be users on your pc or ifor users on your WORKGROUP if your system is part of number of pcs.And the rest is simple you can give aFULL CONTROL - you and other users can access files and chand them from anywhere.CHANGE - Allows change files or modify them READ - You can only veiw the filesDENY - You can deny other users some previllages. You click on OK and restart all the systems. And rememeber if you are going to use the for a while then you can set it on EVERYONE and FULL CONTROL. But what itmeans is thatusers on your network can so whatever they like to the files on your systems like delete, hide, modify, copyetc. So make sure the rightusers have the right permissions.I hope this sorts the problem out. Cheers.
